SUNDAY 26TH MARCH 2023
NEW ROUTE SECTIONS FOR 2023
Maintaining the general route direction and areas of the previous events but with over 65km of new route sections!
Blue = Previous route / Red = 2023 Route
Please Note: Final route is subject to rigorous risk assessment, seasonal disruptions, and roadworks.
2.5km / +14.1% max / 5% avg
Known as the 'Kinver Killer' I used to ride this hill when I was a teenager in the late 90s on a very heavy MTB! I wouldn't say it's got any easier as the bike has got lighter but I definitely appreciate the view a lot more. A truly iconic climb that will no doubt be part of the discussion back at the bar at the end of the ride.
1.3km / +7% max / 4% avg
You'll be glad to hear that Sheepwalks Hill contributed to the majority of the ascent here so after a quick dip down and back up you come out on top of Hammers Hill. Looking West you get a great view over Shropshire and the Clee Hills in the distance.
Ribbesford 'Twin Peaks'
Both = 6km / +12.5% max / 5% avg
Another personal favourite from my early cycling days hurtling through Ribbesford Woods you climb under the canopy of the trees until you burst out at the summit of the first peak. Then, it's a fast dip down (-13%) through the trees before going immediately into peak 2 which, after another covered climb, takes you all the way down to Stourport.
Please note: there is a ford in the dip which we will be monitoring as the seasons change. Whilst there is a bridge, if the road is highly flooded we will divert down Ribbesford Rd
Check back soon and keep an eye on our social media pages and newsletters for more route highlights!
NEW START/FINISH VENUE FOR 2023
We are very happy to have found a new home for the Mad March Hare in 2023! We understand the issues experienced at the previous years' venues and that the area wasn't representative of the Madhare brand. Too much local traffic, a shared car park with shoppers, and too many surrounding urban roads on the route as well as a venue that didn't allow the space for the Madhare brand to breathe.
Transport Museum Wythall....
Right on the boundary of where Birmingham meets Worcestershire is Transport Museum Wythall, a local attraction and charity that brings the history of transport to life for families and enthusiasts to enjoy. Perfectly positioned to immediately ride on the country lanes and local hills of the area without a shopping centre in sight! The venue has plenty of space for us to add our Madhare flair; as well as all the seating and toilets we could wish for! The museum will be closed to the public during the event (so we have the place to ourselves) but that doesn't mean there won't be some classic buses and vehicles on show and even a miniature railway!
For more info on the museum and how to get there visit:
Exclusive car parking...
There will be exclusive off-site car parking available no more than 500m away from the venue. Tickets for parking are available through the entry form
