FANCY SOMETHING ROUGHER?

ROUTE OPTION 3: THE GRAVEL ROUTE

NUMBER OF CASTLES: 1 - Kenilworth Castle

LENGTH/ELEVATION: 40km/341m

FEED STATIONS: Breakfast and post-ride food available at the Hatton Arms

DESCRIPTION: The route that started the whole idea for this event. During lockdown I grabbed my gravel bike and went exploring places I never knew existed in 15 years of cycling around the area! I was blown away by the amazing, flat, fun, off-road space. It's around 50% 'gravel, fields, single track and cut throughs' and 50% rolling country roads. But you're more likely to pass more cows than cars!

***Unfortunately HS2 works have meant a few last minute deviations so there is a little more road than planned. Be careful on Blind Lane from the Crackley Lane diversion, it's aptly named as the corners are indeed blind. Please be cautious of oncoming vehicles (although they are very rare!)

There are overgrown sections off Westwood Heath Rd/Featherbed lane.

*** 22/8 UPDATE *** The muddy sections at the end of Chase Lane up and over the fields are now unpassable after more rainfall last night. The re-route takes you around the roads (sorry) and also extends the ride to 40km***

HAVING A FAMILY DAY OUT?

ROUTE OPTION 4: THE FAMILY ROUTE

NUMBER OF CASTLES: 1 - Kenilworth Castle

LENGTH/ELEVATION: 15km/85m

FEED STATIONS: Breakfast and post ride snacks at the Hatton Arms

DESCRIPTION: Flat, fast and lots of fun! With only 85m of elevation (most of which is at the start) once you're across the road at the start you won't see another car until you return. Expect gravel, grass, farms, little bridges, gates, turkey farms, cows, horses, and then Kenilwoth Castle!

*** Once you've reached the castle have a look around before heading off back to Hatton Arms the same way you came, which we've found, as a family of 4, a lot easier to explain to the kids. This is a firm fave of my 10 year old son, especially the race back!***
